OUR STORY

We are Tasnim and Farid, parents of four children and founders of the Sourires Solidaires clinic. We invite you to discover how our idea became a reality thanks to all those who believed in our dream.

The founders

Dr Farid Amer Ouali

Dr. Farid graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Montreal in 2008. He then completed a multidisciplinary residency at Notre-Dame Hospital, followed by a specialty in maxillofacial surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He has more than 10 years of experience and practices in several hospitals, including Sainte-Justine Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu de Saint-Jérôme Hospital, as well as in clinics in Laval and Montreal.

Dre Tasnim Alami-Laroussi

Having obtained her Doctorate in Dental Medicine at the University of Montreal in 2009, Dr. Tasnim has more than 10 years of experience in pediatric dentistry. Her love of children comes from her work as a student in day camps and at the Philou respite center as a companion for polyhandicaped children. For the sustainability of Sourires Solidaires, she is pursuing her graduate studies at the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal.

Emergence

Faced with this issue, it became clear that the conventional clinic methodology did not meet the needs of vulnerable children. Our founders then decided to explore the world of social economy. Their idea was highlighted by an award by the social innovation LAB.

Implantation

The idea materialized with the creation of Sourires Solidaires in 2018. Each administrator that was recruited by Farid and Tasnim came from various sectors and joined the Sourires Solidaires Board voluntarily. To support the financing of free dental services the organisation obtained a charity number. Thanks to the support of collaborators and financial partners, the launch of the dental community clinic was finally made possible.

Sustainability

The founders are glad that solid foundations have been built, but they are aware that to sustain the organization essential partnerships and collaborations must be developed. This is why they appeal to all interested collaborators to ensure the future viability of the clinic.
